Donation of Used Computers for Norwich Men’s Shed

Late last month we made contact with the Norwich Men’s Shed who have taken up our offer of three refurbished computers. We understand the computers will be used at or in support of the Norwich Men’s Shed and the Poringland & District Men’s Shed

Both of these organisations have been set up to promote men’s good health and well-being for the benefit of the community.

  • Norwich Men’s Shed is situated alongside Men’s Craft at the centre in Pitt-Street and offers a physical space for men to socialise and take part in practical, recreational activities, and amongst other things addresses the key issues around well-being, social isolation and loneliness.
  • Poringland & District Men’s Shed is a place for men to meet and share the tools and resources they need to work on projects of their own. Typical activities may involve woodworking but may include metalworking, bike repair or just drinking tea!

These computers have been supplied by us free of charge and obligation. While they will be pre-loaded with a fully licenced version of a popular operating system we encourage the organisations we deal with to avoid proprietary software in favour of FOSS (FREE and OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE) and to that end will also install software such as 7zip, Audacity, Firefox and LibreOffice. (See why here).

We wish everyone at the Norwich Men’s Shed the best of luck and we look forward to paying a visit when they finally re-open.
