A blast from the past…

“long before Google Analytics was a twinkle in some US tech firms eye, we were processing web site visitor logs through software.”

… and a reminder you don’t need large US tech firms.

I found this picture very recently so I though I would post it. Taken some time in late 1999, this was when I set up a web design business with my then colleagues Robert Ashton and Robert Gibbons. Although we parted company and I came back to IT, those days were a lot of fun to be a part of.

As well as spotting that none of our hair is grey, I also I spotted the box I am holding. This was when software arrived in a box and on CD or floppy disk. The software in question was the tool we used to process and analyse web site visitor logs, long before Google Analytics was a twinkle in some US tech firms eye.

Only today have I renewed our subscription to Matomo – the Google Analytics alternative that protects your data and your customers’ privacy.

It’s a reminder that you didn’t need large US tech firms to track web site visitors then – and you still don’t!

If you are interested in having us deploy an ethical web site visitor tracking tool, talk to your web designer, or ask us to help.
